Whilst working at PRG Lighting Guy Creswell from Promuseast
approached me looking for a design which would give his show a bigger visual
impacted on the previous year.
This event is hosted in the Porter Tun Room of
The Brewery, Chiswell Street. There are 2 shows which both take the form of a
formal dinner followed by an evening of entertainment which consists of
contestants from represented companies competing in boxing matches and a
The event is set in the round centred on a boxing ring, I
wanted to follow this theme in the light rig so we flew lengths of trussing to
allow me to position both moving lights and key lighting to hit the ring from
all angles. This meant we could get some stunning effects and beamy looks
whilst retaining enough light for the cameras to pick up the action in the
To maximise the look I chose to use Clay Paky Alpha Spot HPE 300’s as
they are light-weight and have a fantastic light output for their size. They
enabled me to create a range of looks when combined with the in-house LED wash
at the brewery from large beam gobo washes to tight beam walk-up stings, using
the LED as a base colour and the moving lights usually in a lighter
complimentary colour so the beams really punched through.
